Hi! I'm Nate Smith, LPC

Over 7 years experience providing counseling and psychotherapy.
Hello and welcome!
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor offering online counseling services in the great state of Texas! Based in Amarillo, Texas, I bring over 7 years of counseling experience. With a breadth of knowledge and training, I can help you begin to take care of yourself, so you can take care of others.
I hold a Master's of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Wyoming and I'm currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Texas Tech University, in Lubbock, Texas. I am professionally licensed by the State of Texas, LPC #77253
I specialize in working with LGBTQIA clients who are navigating many of life's difficulties.
I am also excited to provide services to people who are overcoming anxiety and depression and couples counseling.
My work with the LGBTQIA community spans over 10 years of service. I have supported my community in a multitude of roles. In the past 7 years, I have had the pleasure and honor of serving LGBTQIA clients in a clinical therapist role. I seek to help clients navigating the gender and sexual spectrum. I also enjoy working with LGBTQIA identified clients navigating non-LGBTQIA issues, but need someone who is familiar with the unique challenges we face as a community just living our lives.
My professional work includes supporting LGBTQIA young adults, facilitating LGBTQIA identity exploration, coming out, Gender Identity exploration, same-sex couples counseling, and a multitude of other areas where LGBTQIA identity intersects with everyday life.
Even if these LGBTQIA issues are not present in your current difficulties, but you identify as LGBTQIA, I can provide empathic counseling services that are familiar with navigating mental health issues and life circumstances.
Alongside my counseling work, I am an educator and writer. I work for the University of Wyoming as an Academic Professional Lecturer, teaching courses in LGBTQIA studies. I'm currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Texas Tech University, in this time, I have co-taught several courses for graduate counseling students. As a writer, I am currently finishing my first book, entitled "This is Not a Self Help Book, This is a Self-Care Book," which will be available in early 2019.
I have been married to my incredible husband for 5 years, and together for 10 years. We enjoy traveling and playing with our two kitties, Hugo and Pearl and our young Goldendoodle, Maple!
I look forward to working with you in the counseling process!
